Product Info:

OK, so if you’re looking for a new way to quickly come up with hybrid drum sounds you may want to give Drumlab a try.

The concept is to provide a very simple interface in which you can mix 2 drum layers to come up with your own unique drum sounds. You get a layer of electronic source drums, and a layer of acoustic source drum sounds, with a simple fader to mix how much of each is present in your drum sound.

Throw in quick fx, style presets, and a groove sequencer and you have a pretty cool way of adding new drums to your track. This can really fit any type of genre, as long as you’re looking for a creative way to create drums it’s worth consideration.

I think DL’s strength is in the ability to select and shape individual kit pieces and build up a grove from those pieces from scratch and play them back in real time. I hope to get this by the end of the year. Nice work again Saint Joe. Thanks for the video.

There isn’t really anything special to doing it that way, I’m usually not a fan of playing kontakt drum libraries in Maschine, it would just be putting the pad in keyboard mode.

Very nice drums, thanks for the review, I’ve got enough bread&butter drums already from Toontrack EZ / Superior Drummer as it is, and a fast shrinking harddrive, but yeah these sounds pretty awesome.

exactly! I hate that. But what I do in situations like that I just build my own kits of the drum instrument. for example, I’m a big fan of Addictive Drums so what I do is load it on pad 1, put it in keyboard mode, find a kick I want, maybe tweak it to my liking, then re-sample it. Then do then same thing on each pad with snares, hi-hats, etc, rename the group and save it as a kit.

From what I can tell you can only layer the same types sounds would be nice if they’d allow you to layer whatever you want

    [Reply]

  13. Uprightest

And it seems like only two layers per sound right? At least four layers plus a few more effects and this would be amazing. What about individual out routings for each piece of the kit..is that supported?

    [Reply]

  14. SoundsAndGear

you can route the sounds in the kit out to whatever outputs you want, only 2 layers, so again, a very basic concept but one that can prove useful especially for those that don’t do their own layering otherwise, it can spark some creativity

  15. SoundsAndGear

Yeah I agree man! But you can still do it the old fashioned way and load multiple patches in a single instance 🙂

  19. SoundsAndGear

Yeah I use BFD for my “real” drums mostly, but something like this could be useful to the right person. Quick layering can spark some different sounds

Yeah I feel you fam, that’s what’s up, and that gives you more flexibility. otherwise if it’s an instrument type of plugin I just play it from my keyboard lol.

Hey Joe – are you likely to experience phase cancellation and other issues on the kicks and snares without having the ability to move the start points or invert then phase on each layer?

    [Reply]

  33. SoundsAndGear

Maybe they compensated for that, but it seems to work okay

IM NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS THE SUB DRUM IS NOT DEEP OR LONG ENUFF THAT’S JUST MY OPINION

    [Reply]

  35. SoundsAndGear

That’s exactly why I show this stuff, so you know what’s up! Though, I wouldn’t look to this for sub bass or sub bass drums, checkout the video I just did on urban 808 for that
